Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS)
CVS also known an Digital Eye Strain refers to a group of eye and vision-related problems following the extended use of back lit technology such as computers, tablets, e-readers and mobile phones. These problems occur because of the effort required by the eyes to keep the text clear and single at a close distance.

Problems that were once limited to office workers spending 7-8 hours/day in front of the computer, are now developing at a fast rate in younger populations due to the prolonged use (and reliance) of iPad's and mobile devices. There is even evidence to support a strong link between CVS and increasing Myopia (short-sightedness) prescriptions in patients.

The most common symptoms of CVS/Digital Eye Strain include:
-
Blurry vision
-
Frontal headaches (around the eyes and forehead)
-
Pain in and around the eyes
-
Dry eyes
-
Neck & shoulder pain -> which can often lead to tension headaches
Causes of Computer Vision Syndrome
According to the AOA (2020), symptoms can be caused by:
-
Poor lighting
-
Glare from the digital screens
-
Uncorrected vision problems or incorrect glasses prescriptions
-
Incorrect ergonomic set up
-
