
Funding
Medicare
Generally, Orthoptic services are NOT covered by Medicare. However, patients under 25 year may be referred by an eligible Medical Practitioner to:

Assist the medical practitioner with diagnostic formulation where the patient has a suspected complex neurodevelopmental disorder or eligible disability* or
​​
-
Contribute to the patient’s treatment and management plan developed by the referring medical practitioner where a complex neurodevelopmental disorder (such as autism spectrum disorder) or eligible disability* is confirmed.
Private Health Insurance
Rebates may be available for consultations and therapy sessions provided by a qualified Orthoptist.

Patients are encouraged to check their level of Extras cover for "Eye Therapy" or "Orthoptics Treatment" with their private health insurer.

Please note: HICAPS claiming is not available for Orthoptics. Once your invoice has been paid in full, a receipt including the treating Orthoptist's provider number will be issued. This can be used to claim a rebate directly from your health fund.
NDIS
EYETREAT is a registered and approved provider under the National Disability Insurance Scheme for:

Therapeutic Supports for patients over 9 years old, and
-
Vision Equipment

Patients under 9 years old can also be seen under Early Intervention.

As a registered provider, we welcome Self, Plan & Agency Managed patients.
Vision Australia
EYETREAT is a registered provider of The NSW Spectacles Program which funds free glasses and optical aids to eligible* disadvantaged residents of NSW.

Less than $500 of total assets​

Receive a full Commonwealth pension or income support payment, and no additional income OR

Low income earner with a net income no greater than the full Newstart or Aged-Pension allowance
